The mission of Saint John the Evangelist Student Support Team is to create a Catholic welcoming, caring, nurturing, and inclusive environment in which students are able to reach their fullest potential through different modalities of learning all while living out the mission of Jesus Christ. Students learn the importance of self- advocating for themselves and develop strategies that best support their learning style
Services provided for students:
Academic Check-ins – This is provided to students to ensure that they are reaching their fullest potential in regards to academic success. During this time, strategies and goals are developed with the student. The student would work towards the goals for the coming week and the discussion if the strategies worked for the student. Students will be chosen through different types of data collection techniques from teachers.
Accommodations – Students with a diagnosed disability, whether it be through the county or private evaluation, will have a Catholic Accommodation Plan (CAP). This plan is developed based on the evaluation results. Once the plan is created, it is reviewed with the parents and all teachers educating the child. The student receives all accommodations outlined in the plan throughout educational career at Saint John’s.
Pull-out intervention programs (Reading, Math, Folder Friends) – The student will be pulled to receive reading or math intervention services depending on his/her need. The intervention services provided are research-based interventions. There will be a parental permission slip to sign for your child to participate if they qualify by below average on MAP Growth testing, a formal diagnosis with public school service provider data and/or medical evaluation or eligibility for ELL Services based on Title III/TELL Testing.
Push-in supports – The Director of Student Services and Inclusion and resource teacher go into all grade level classes from PreK3-8 grade intermittently to provide push-in services for students. This support will be given to all students in the classroom.
LEAP (Learning Enrichment Achievement Program) grades 1-8 – This program will provide accelerated and enrichment activities for students. These activities will focus on areas of interest and develop complex skills in academic areas. There will be a parental permission slip to sign for your child to participate if they qualify from teacher recommendation based upon their academic performance inside the classroom and above average standardized testing scores.
Services provided to parents:
Parent development – Parents will be invited to attend Coffee Meet-Up which will go over different topics to help students continue to improve in their education. The dates and topics will be announced a month before each meeting along with a RSVP if you are interested in attending.
Child Find Involvement – The SST will help with referral to the county for evaluation and attend all meetings throughout the process as well as keep the documents current.
