Oct. 25, 2020 – Pope Francis names Washington Archbishop Wilton Gregory as one of 13 new cardinals from around the world, to be elevated at a Nov. 28 Consistory in Rome. In a statement, Archbishop Gregory says, “With a very grateful and humble heart, I thank Pope Francis for this appointment which will allow me to work more closely with him in caring for Christ’s Church.” (cathstan.org, 2020)

- Dec. 11, 2020 – The Students of St. John’s School under the guidance of Father Jaime Hernandez, Pastor, Sister Leilani G. Dumaliang, MCST, Director of Religious Education and Ann Gillespie, Principal, conducted a prayer ceremony and blessing in honor of the newly appointed Cardinal Wilton Gregory, Archdiocese of Washington. The school dedicated a weeping cherry tree and placed it in front of the Religious Education wing of the school along with a dedication plaque. The Faculty and Students will nurture the tree just as Cardinal Gregory nurtures the people of the Archdiocese of Washington.
